What is a Jubilee?

What is a Jubilee? The Jubilar year has its roots in the Bible (Lev.25) and is to be distinguished by concrete gestures and practices: prayer, reconciliation, forgiveness of debts, indulgences, reconstruction of relationships, a “year of Liberation.” God invites his people to “begin again” to redo his ways. With his Incarnation and mission, Jesus proclaims “a year of favor from the Lord” (Lk 4:19).

This year, Pope Francis invites us to renew our hope to become Pilgrims of Hope.“ Christian hope, in fact, does not deceive or disappoint because it is founded on the certainty that nothing and no one can ever separate us from divine love.”

We are called to look to the future with hope and enthusiasm and to share it with others. We must be signs of this hope for the sick, the young, the migrants, the elderly, the grandfathers and grandmothers, and the poorest, while respecting the earth.

On this path, the Blessed Virgin Mary gives us the highest testimony of hope by repeating her “let it be done” from the Annunciation to the cross so that shecan later meet her Risen Son and accompany the Church in its beginnings.
