ABOUT US
1973
Smelter town and the Parish of San Jose de Cristo Rey closed.
1977
Father Luis Cataño established a parish council in Pacific Park for future church plans.
1978
Bishop Flores chose Saint Jude as the patron saint and decided to construct a multipurpose center.
1980
Architect Bernard Mulville designed St. Jude Center. Bishop Peña presided over the groundbreaking ceremony.
1981
Bishop Peña presided over the dedication ceremony of the "St. Jude Community Center."
1982
Rev. Giles Carie OFM Con. was replaced by Rev. Francisco Herrera. St. Jude Mission declared a parish by Bishop Peña.
1988
Rev. Rafael Miranda replaced Rev. Francisco Herrera, with plans for new offices.
1993
New church construction approved. Bishop Peña presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on August 7. The building was completed by March 20, 1994, and dedicated on May 1.
1995
Plans for the second phase of construction were made, including a chapel, offices, classrooms, and remodeling of the parish hall. The second phase was inaugurated on December 3.
1996
Rev. Richard Weiss named Associate Pastor. Catechism and youth programs expanded, and a contract with the Dominican Sisters for religious instruction was made. Plans for a Rectory were initiated.
1998
Land for the priest's rectory was donated by a family devoted to Saint Jude.
1999
$150,000 accumulated in savings. Construction of the Rectory began on August 23.
2002
Monsignor Rafael Miranda passed away in February. Bishop Armando X. Ochoa assigned Rev. Pablo Matta as administrator in March.
2007
Seminarian Mark Salas joined the Parish team for one year.
2009
Land across the Church was purchased in September.
2010
Chapel remodeling and landscaping finished in March.
2012
Rev. Roberto Alvarado assigned as Pastor and Ignacio Bustillos as Deacon/administrator.
2015
Rev. Miguel Angel Sanchez assigned as pastor, with Parochial Vicars Fathers Antonio Martinez, Apolinar Samboni, Victorino Lorezca, and Esteban Sescon at different times.
2023
Rev. Edilberto (Beto) Lopez assigned as Pastor, with Father Esteban Sescon remaining as Parochial Vicar.
